Camouflage, often referred to as the German Depeche Mode, began their journey in 1984 when founding members Marcus Meyn, Heiko Maile, and Oliver Kreyssig joined forces. They achieved great success in 1986 by winning the Hessen Radio song contest, and their debut single "The Great Commandment" topped the Billboard "Dance Club Songs" chart.
Their debut album "Voices and Images" (1988) and follow-up "Methods of Silence" (1989) introduced their unique synthpop sound, incorporating violins, saxophones, and guitars. Despite lineup changes, Camouflage continued to evolve, releasing eight studio albums, the latest being "Greyscale" in 2015.
According to renowned music critic and DJ Anders Melts, Camouflage is an important band for synthpop enthusiasts, often compared to Depeche Mode. "They have created unique hits since the 1980s and remain relevant today, sounding as fresh as a young band," says Melts.
